The Belarussian Blind People SocietyNotice of the executive committee about the termination of cooperationOur cooperation with the Belarussian Blind People Society began in 1992. Our cooperation with Anatoli Netylkin, the chairman at the time, was always good and based on mutual agreement. The same applies to his colleague, Vjatscheslav Pleskatsch, who was our contact for the Blind People Society from the beginning. Unfortunately, Anatoli Netylkin died in 2001. The cooperation with his successor was ill-fated from the beginning. Internal problems at the Blind People Society affected the collaboration with Tschernobyl-Initiative and culminated in summer 2004, during the preliminary arrangements for children’s recovery and during the deployments in Podjelniki. Cooperation was discontinued in late 2004 as Mr. Schepel was not able or willing to answer our questions to clarify these problems. In February 2005, a discussion was held in Watzum with the executive committee of Tschernobyl-Initiative and Mr. Schepel. After that, we made another attempt at cooperating. An aid transport and deployment (construction of the bicycle repair shop) took place from May to August 2005. Other activities which had been planned (supporting children’s recovery in Podjelniki and social visit to Belarus) could not be carried out because the required cost estimates were not obtained in time by the Blind People Society. The executive committee realised that the Blind People Society with which we once started cooperating did not exist any more. The executive committee again put a lot of time and effort into the partnership/Blind People Society issue and decided to discontinue the cooperation with the Blind People Society due to their lacking willingness to cooperate and due to various misunderstandings, irritations and conflicts with the chairman of the Belarussian Blind People Society (Oleg Schepel) which had never been clarified. At the end of 2004, we started looking for a new partner who would be capable of carrying out solid joint aid for Chernobyl with us in the future. We have found a suitable partner. This is the national organisation "Hoffnung für die Zukunft" ("Hope for the Future"), based in Minsk. Paul Koch
