Childrens' Recuperation 2010Radiation-Affected Children to Recover at the Falkenheim Centre in Groß Denkte in Summer 2010In Summer 2010 (2nd - 29th August) children from the radiation-affected areas of Belarus are again coming to stay with us in Germany. More than 20 years after the reactor accident, their environment and food is still heavily contaminated. The affected children urgently need recuperation, clean air and uncontaminated food. We, the 'Tschernobyl-Initiative in der Propstei Schöppenstedt' have been active for more than 15 years; for the last 12 years as a registered charitable organisation. During this time the childrens' recuperation has become one of the many focus points of our work. Every two years we invite 30 children from Belarus to the 'Freizeit- und Bildungszentrum Asse' (FBZ) in Groß Denkte. At the weekends, pairs of children go to stay with families. Great efforts are made to ensure that the children spend all 4 weekends with the same family. During the week the children stay as a group in the Falkenheim, in Groß Denkte in the Wolfenbüttel area, which offers good conditions for play and recuperation. Excursions are organised from here, both to the local area and further afield. Invitations from communities, societies and associations are taken up. In good weather, the swimming pool is a must.
